Our Moulin Rouge Experience

It had taken a fair bit of work before leaving Australia to get tickets to the Moulin Rouge. Unable to get any directly from Moulin Rouge, I had managed to get some from a local tour company. For about the same price this also included a sight seeing tour of Paris and drop off to our hotel (after the show finished at 1 a.m.) All in all not bad value as it probably saved time and having to make our way through all the beggars and homeless that frequent the Metro stations (the not so glamorous sights of Paris).

Initially the Moulin experience was not looking so good as we queued down the pavement with the hundreds of other people. You tended to get herded into little sections ( like livestock ) as the bouncers from the many bars prevented you from standing on the footpath in front of their establishment.

We had a bit of entertainment once the soccer game finished and all the Italians flocked to the street to sing and chant.

Even inside the "livestock" feeling persisted as you were herded into your seats and champagne corks were hastily popped and bottles poured.

However once the show got under way things started to look up. The male members of the West clan were certainly transfixed to the stage by the colorful costumes of the dancers ( or lack there of!). It was certainly lively and the costumes creative and colourful. The show was well put together in that it was broken up by other visual acts such as a comic mime, a juggler and performers doing other athletic feats (in a similar way to Circus de Soleil).

The two top acts of the night were the Can Can and the girl dancing/ swimming in the huge glass tank with the big, live pythons.
