An afternoon in Paris

This afternoon we left the Louvre and decided to cross this bridge where it is a tradition that "lovers" attach a lock on the bridge and then throw the key into the Seine below to symbolize their eternal love.

We actually saw a newly wed couple do the tradition.

Luckily Mum had come prepared with a lock so Mum and Dad did it too.

Then we went to a Boulangerie to get some baguettes for a picnic lunch on the bank of the river Seine before going to visit Notre Dame. The problem at Notre Dame was that a service was going on and it wouldn't open to the public till 4:30.

That gave us an hour and a half to kill so we decided to visit the near by attractions. One of them was the Conciergerie, a prison during the French revolution. You got to see Marie-Antoinette's cell, lots of plaques with the names of all the beheaded and a nice little garden as well as learning a bit about what was going on. In Sainte-Chapelle we saw the famous stained glass windows which were very impressive.

We then went back to Notre Dame and saw the massive line and decided we were happy to see it, take a photo and leave rather than wait for hours to climb the 400 steps to the top.
