We spent part of our day walking around the walls that encircle York. The original walls were higher than shown but the ground has built up around the footings. There are towers at the end of each wall section that now house museums and coffee shops but used to have more sinister functions in the past.
The rest of the day we spent exploring the squares and narrow lanes (called The Shambles) that make up the city centre. It is a shoppers paradise full of interesting little clothes and speciality boutiques, bakeries, markets and of course chocolate shops.
Thought you might like this Jubilee cake shop display Cathy.

ReplyDeleteI too really liked York. We had the usual 1 hour bus stop to toilet, coffee oh and see the sights, in the busiest part of the day tourist wise.
Definitely taking Henk there!
Did you see the Angel of the North as you passed Newcastle? Meant to message you before you got down that far as it is free, very impressive and not far off the motorway. Google it and put it on your list for next time. Cheers travellers.
Yes, we did!
