Week of the Sun: Day 2

Today was the Relay event and Dad, Luke and I were entered in Men's open. Dad was off in the mass start leaving Luke as second leg runner and me bringing us home while Mum was entered to fill in for a team.

We read that the winning time for our course was 20/30 minutes leaving Luke and I worried about how we would do when we saw that Dad had come through the spectator control at 40mins. Luke was tagged and off while Dad punched the finish. I asked him if it was a tough course and he said no, one of the controls (45) was missing. Luke came back later and tagged me while telling me that control 64 was missing as well. Only in Italy would you find at the National championships that two controls were missing and nobody really seemed to care (except some of the exhausted runners).

It turns out that I was the only one who knew that two controls were missing before their race and I didn't even have them on my course. It wasn't an easy walk in the park I can tell you but since I didn't need to look around for non existent controls for half an hour I had the fastest run out of all of us and we finished in 11th place.

Tomorrow is the first double event day out of two. We have the middle distance in the morning and a night sprint around town that evening. Hopefully our family results will improve over the next three days.

Happy Birthday Luke
