We got there and sorted things out until 10:00 when Dad had his start. The map was a 5 Mile Beach sort of map but with a whole lot less mounds and depressions. The maps mounds and depressions were all one contour deep and really hard to pick up in the long grass. We all had a decent run with Mum coming first in her division and me third in mine. We didn't stick around for the presentations because the rain was always a prominent factor.

We got back to camp and it didn't rain so we had our own little siesta and a swim until the clouds came over and frightened us into packing everything up into the tent... but still nothing happened so we got ready for the night-O and went down to the camp bar. We ordered our drinks and !BAM! the thunder and rain struck only to be followed by the lightening. It was that bad the camp manager came out and offered us a bungalow for free as he was worried about us in our tents. We sat fearing the running on the cobblestones in town and decided if the rain continued we weren't going. But as soon as the rain eased and the thunder stopped we were gone and getting ready before we changed our minds.

Thank God it stopped raining because the night-O in Vico del Gargano was brilliant! The little curvy streets, the irregular sets of steps, the tiny passage ways, small tunnels that you had to duck to get in to, the locals cheering you on in incomprehensible Italian. Nothing can compare in Australia to this. We all had a great time and Dad came second in his division, Mum fourth in hers and me fourth in mine. We really enjoyed it but got home as soon as we could in case the rain hit again!
