Mark's highlights of the week.

In no particular order these have been:

* St Andrews - this was an absolutely awesome experience. It is a golfer's dream come true. To play a game of Ambrose with your sons will be a lifelong memory. The only thing that would have made it better was if the "old boy" (dad) could have been here.

* Belfast tour - very hard to put this into words. Our cab driver Jack really made this recent turbulent history come alive. It was a very chilling feeling to experience both sides of this conflicted time. I have come away with a better understanding and appreciation of this piece of history that was happening during my lifetime - thank you Jack. The picture below is outside the Sinn Fein headquarters on the Falls Road.

* Cork Gaellic Football - Go Cork! What a fast, non stop athletic game to watch. I liken this game to adults playing Auskick. - no tackling, no marking, just continual free flow play. Whilst it is a skillful game the faster and more agile you are the better payer you are.

* Waterford Crystal - this tour would have to be the surprise packet of the week. I was in awe to watch these master craftsmen at work whilst interacting casually with us. This was a real factory tour - can't imagine it happening in Australia due to OH&S regulations. Having been a tradesman myself, I was in awe of the skill of these craftsmen.

The other tours we have done have been good but haven't had the WOW factor of the above.

Other things I have learnt are:
* Castles are cold!
* The Blarney Stone does not kiss back!
* The view from the Guiness Tower was more spectacular than the taste of the beer itself!
* It may be English but when spoken by people from Ireland, Scotland and parts of Britain it is hard to understand!
* I didn't love the taste of Haggis but I didn't hate it either!
* I am looking forward to seeing the sun again!
